The Windmill Shed is on Wimmera Farm, Dalwallinu-Kalannie Road, two kilometres south-east of the town of Dalwallinu in Western Australian north-east wheatbelt.
The collection of about 100 fully restored, working windmills has been put together by Jim Sawyer since 2008, although his interest in these iconic symbols of Australian farming extends back to his boyhood farm years.
The museum includes windmills from all over Australia and a number of overseas countries, particularly the USA.
A bonus for visitors to the museum is the opportunity to see a small collection of beautifully restored vintage cars and machinery.
Entry is by donation and a phone call to Jim or Betty on 9661 1114 prior to venturing out to the museum is advisable.
The museum is on the giant Harding Sawyer property, one of the largest farms in Western Australia and, depending on the work schedule (and prior arrangements), visitors may be able to view some of the farm’s operations.
